Delta Postpones Riyadh Flights After Houthi Airport Attacks
Delta Air Lines delayed its first nonstop Atlanta-to-Riyadh service until March following deadly Houthi attacks at King Khalid International Airport.
Delta Air Lines postponed the launch of its first nonstop commercial service between Atlanta and Riyadh until March. Originally scheduled for October 23, the route was delayed after projectiles claimed by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis struck King Khalid International Airport on Saturday.
The attacks targeted the airport, including a passenger terminal, killing at least 12 people and wounding over 300. The airport remains closed, resulting in the cancellation of thousands of flights. CEO Ed Bastian stated that safety would determine the decision to postpone the route.
The delay follows a Federal Aviation Administration warning issued Sunday, which advised U.S. airlines to exercise caution in Saudi Arabian airspace due to safety-of-flight risks from ongoing military activities. This warning remains in effect until December 10. Additionally, the United States and Australia have advised their citizens against traveling to the region.
