Ghana and Canada Agree on Five Bilateral Development Goals

Ghana and Canada established five concrete deliverables to strengthen ties, focusing on youth labor mobility, digital literacy, and sustainable mining practices.

Ghanaian Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa concluded a working visit to Canada after meeting with Canadian Secretary of State for International Development Randeep Sarai. The two officials established five concrete deliverables designed to shift the bilateral relationship toward trade and industrialization rather than traditional aid.

The agreements include a new partnership for youth labor mobility and skills empowerment, specifically targeting digital literacy and the energy transition. Canada will also provide technical support to help Ghana establish its Women’s Development Bank and collaborate on sustainable mining practices and environmental reclamation.

To support regional stability and counterterrorism, the nations will enhance cooperation at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre. The diplomatic engagement will culminate in a broader Africa-Canada dialogue scheduled for next year to align development priorities regarding infrastructure and industrialization.
