The Guardian Launches US Political Enterprise Investigation Team

The Guardian has formed a new US political enterprise team focused on investigating federal abuse of power and the real-world impact of political decisions on the public. The initiative aims to shift away from traditional horse race political coverage toward accountability journalism that exposes how power operates within the United States capital.

The Guardian appointed George Zornick, formerly the chief national editor at HuffPost, as the team's editor on August 18. Zornick reports to Washington editor Ankita Rao and will oversee the team's investigative efforts. Joining him on August 25 is Aram Roston, a senior reporter previously with Reuters who specializes in corruption, national security, and white collar crime.

US editor Betsy Reed stated that the need for accountability journalism has become acute in the nation's capital. Zornick and Roston both emphasized the importance of pursuing facts and exposing the secret powers shaping public life during a period of rampant disinformation.
