Indian Equity Markets Drop Amid Crude Oil Price Hikes
Indian equity markets saw sharp losses Wednesday as crude oil prices rose and investors awaited a United States Federal Reserve policy decision.
Indian equity markets experienced sharp losses on Wednesday morning, with the Sensex declining 684 points to 72,914 and the Nifty falling 167 points to 22,581. The downturn was driven by elevated crude oil prices and investor caution ahead of quarterly earnings reports and an upcoming policy decision by the United States Federal Reserve.
Most sectoral indices on the National Stock Exchange traded in the red, led by Nifty IT and FMCG, though the Nifty auto index rose 0.36%. This decline occurred despite positive movement in overnight US markets and gains in Asian markets, including Japan and South Korea.
Trading data from October 27 showed a divergence in institutional activity, with foreign institutional investors net buying equities worth Rs 4,240 crore while domestic institutional investors sold equities worth Rs 1,250 crore.
