Republicans Win Most Tennessee Midterm Races as Democrats Flip 4th District
Republicans secured key congressional and state house seats in Tennessee, though Democrat Victoria Broderick unseated incumbent Scott DesJarlais in the 4th Congressional District.
Republicans maintained dominant control of Tennessee's political landscape in the November 2026 midterm elections, though Democrats achieved a notable victory in the 4th Congressional District. Victoria Broderick unseated longtime Republican incumbent Scott DesJarlais to win the 4th District seat.
In the newly redrawn 5th Congressional District, Republican Charlie Hatcher won with 51.6% of the vote, defeating Democrat Chaz Molder. Hatcher, a former agriculture commissioner, had previously defeated incumbent Andy Ogles in the August primary. The 5th District was reshaped by a redistricting plan passed in May by the Tennessee General Assembly, which split Memphis into three districts and drew criticism from Democrats alleging racial gerrymandering.
Republicans also held the 6th and 7th Congressional Districts. State Representative Johnny Garrett won the 6th District, and incumbent Matt Van Epps won the 7th District despite an ethics complaint from opponent Darden Copeland regarding the use of taxpayer-funded staff. Additionally, U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty won reelection to a second term, defeating Marquita Bradshaw.
At the state level, Republican incumbent Esther Helton-Haynes secured a fifth term in State House District 30. She defeated Democratic challenger Art Rymer, who remained on the ballot despite stopping his campaign in July due to frustrations with the Democratic party.
