CoreWeave Seeks Insurance Funding for AI Infrastructure Expansion

CoreWeave is pursuing investment-grade ratings on chip-backed loans to secure lower-cost funding from insurance companies for its AI infrastructure growth.

CoreWeave is attempting to access cheaper capital from insurance companies to finance the expansion of its AI infrastructure. The company aims to secure investment-grade ratings on a larger portion of its chip-backed loans to make them attractive to the insurance market.

This strategy follows a previous $8.5 billion loan, which served as the company's first fully investment-grade loan of this type. That specific financing was backed by hardware chips and a long-term contract with Meta Platforms Incorporated.

Co-founder Brannin McBee noted that the insurance market is not yet a viable source of funding for loans backed by lower-rated customers. The company is now focusing on replicating the investment-grade success of its Meta-backed deal to scale its operations.
