Democrat Chris Mann Declares Victory in Kansas AG Race

Democrat Chris Mann declared victory over Republican incumbent Kris Kobach in the Kansas Attorney General race, though the result faces a mandatory close-race audit.

Democrat Chris Mann declared victory in the Kansas Attorney General race on November 4, 2026, defeating Republican incumbent Kris Kobach. Unofficial results from the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office show Mann leading with 551,468 votes to Kobach's 538,647, a margin of approximately 11,000 votes. While Mann has claimed the win and is scheduled for inauguration on January 11, 2027, the race remains officially uncalled.

Because the margin is 1% or less of the total votes cast, Secretary of State Scott Schwab announced the race will undergo a mandatory close-race audit. This process involves a hand count of ballots in 10% of precincts per county. Mann, a former police officer and prosecutor, campaigned on reducing partisanship and supporting domestic violence shelters, while Kobach focused on immigration and election security.

In other statewide contests, Republicans secured victories for insurance commissioner and state treasurer. Dan Hawkins defeated Democrat Dinah Sykes for insurance commissioner, and Steven Johnson retained his seat as state treasurer. The race for secretary of state remained unsettled, with Republican Pat Proctor holding a slim lead over Democrat Jennifer Day.
