SDP Chairman Demands Femi Gbajabiamila Resign Over Council Scandal
Sadiq Gombe, chairman of the Social Democratic Party, called for Femi Gbajabiamila to resign as Chief of Staff following allegations surrounding a foreign intervention council.
The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Sadiq Gombe, demanded the resignation of Femi Gbajabiamila on July 10, 2026. Following a National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, Gombe called for Gbajabiamila to step down from his roles as Chief of Staff to the President and chairman of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) to allow for an independent investigation into allegations involving the council.
Gombe criticized Gbajabiamila's appointment to lead the committee on the harmonisation of state policing, arguing the assignment is inappropriate for an official facing serious allegations. He further alleged that the state police committee lacks regional balance, claiming nine of its 12 members originate from the same region.
Femi Olaniyi, the SDP Lagos State Chairman, supported the call for resignation. Olaniyi described the PFIPC controversy as a big mess and accused the government of Bola Tinubu of losing track and control.
