Apple Appoints Johny Srouji as Chief Hardware Officer

Apple Inc. restructured its leadership to integrate chip design and physical product engineering under new Chief Hardware Officer Johny Srouji.

Apple Inc. restructured its leadership to consolidate chip design and physical product engineering under a single executive. Johny Srouji has been appointed as chief hardware officer, overseeing both the hardware technologies and hardware engineering teams. Under this new structure, John Ternus, the global head of hardware engineering, now reports to Srouji, while Srouji reports directly to CEO Tim Cook.

The reorganization follows the 2025 launch of the iPhone Air, which required a coordinated design process to fit the A19 Pro chip and the C1X in-house cellular modem into a thinner chassis. While the company continues to transition toward in-house modems, flagship iPhone 17 Pro models still rely on Qualcomm Snapdragon X80 modems.

Despite a profitable hardware business, the company is managing setbacks in software and artificial intelligence. Following a $250 million class-action settlement in May 2026 resulting from a failed AI launch, Ternus is now tasked with integrating AI agents and software developments into the company's hardware products.
