India Denies Trade Deal Commitments for U.S. Ethanol Imports

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India announced on August 6, 2026, that no commitments or concessions have been made to import ethanol from the United States for fuel blending as part of ongoing trade pact discussions. This statement serves as a formal rejection of media reports suggesting India intended to import large quantities of U.S. ethanol, which the ministry described as baseless and misleading.

Government officials clarified that ethanol used under the Ethanol Blended with Petrol Programme is sourced exclusively from domestic producers. The ministry maintained that procurement of ethanol continues to be governed solely by domestic policy requirements rather than international trade agreements.
