South Africa Adjusts November Fuel Prices Amid Oil Spikes

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources announced November fuel price changes, including diesel decreases and paraffin increases, influenced by Middle East conflict and levy reductions.

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources announced fuel price adjustments for November 2026, effective midnight Wednesday. Wholesale diesel prices will decrease by between 109.82 cents and 119.82 cents per litre, and both 93-octane and 95-octane petrol will drop by 1 cent per litre. In contrast, illuminating paraffin will increase by R2.75 per litre, while LP gas will rise by 1.83 cents per kilogram nationwide and 2.08 cents per kilogram in the Western Cape.

These changes occur as Brent crude oil prices rose from $101 to $108 and the rand depreciated against the US dollar from R16.21 to R16.55. The department linked the oil price spike to Middle East conflict and attacks on Saudi Arabian infrastructure.

The marginal decrease in petrol prices was made possible by a temporary fuel levy reduction introduced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana in the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement. Starting November 4, the general fuel levy will be cut by R1.50 per litre for petrol and R3.00 per litre for diesel.
