Amazon Launches Alexa Tablets and Cuts Fire Lineup
Amazon replaced its Fire tablet line with Android-based Alexa Tablets and launched early Black Friday discounts on the new hardware and Samsung devices.
Amazon launched a new series of Android tablets, including the Alexa Tablet 8, 11, and 12 Pro, while discontinuing its Fire tablet lineup. This strategic shift introduces support for the Google Play Store and third-party applications alongside the company's proprietary ecosystem.
The high-end Alexa Tablet 12 Pro starts at $499.99 and features a 12-inch 120Hz display with optional nanomatte anti-glare glass, a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 chip, and a unibody aluminum casing. The device runs Android 16 and includes a Desktop Windowing multitasking mode. Amazon has committed to seven years of security and OS upgrades for the 12 Pro model.
Simultaneously, the company initiated early Black Friday discounts. The Alexa Tablet 8, which features an 8.7-inch display and AI-powered Alexa+ assistance, is priced at $199.99, a $30 reduction from its retail price. Amazon also applied a $300 discount to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, reducing its price to $1,500, while T-Mobile is offering separate carrier deals of up to $1,200 off the foldable phone with specific plan requirements.
