SERAP Demands Financial Disclosure From 19 Nigerian Presidential Candidates

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) called on 19 presidential candidates to publish their assets and liabilities before the 2027 presidential election. In an open letter dated August 8, 2026, the organization urged candidates announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, including Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi, to disclose the wealth of their spouses and unmarried children under 18.

SERAP requested that candidates provide the legitimate sources of their significant wealth and voluntarily exceed legal transparency minimums. The organization stated these measures are necessary to allow voters to identify potential conflicts of interest.

Additionally, SERAP demanded that candidates publicly reject electoral bribery and vote-buying. The group urged the candidates to instruct their supporters and campaign organizations to avoid offering material inducements to voters.
