Amazon Explores $8 Billion Deal to Offload Nvidia Chips
Amazon.com Inc. is considering a financial arrangement to move $8 billion in Nvidia Grace Blackwell chips off its balance sheet using a special-purpose vehicle.
Amazon.com Inc. is exploring a financial arrangement to move approximately $8 billion of high-end Nvidia Corp. chips off its balance sheet. The plan involves transferring thousands of Grace Blackwell chips, currently housed in more than a dozen data centers across the United States, into a special-purpose vehicle funded by external investors.
This asset-light financing model would allow Amazon to maintain operational use of the hardware while the special-purpose vehicle issues debt and sells up to a 10% equity stake to investors. The move aims to reduce the direct capital burden of maintaining expensive AI hardware on the company's books.
