GSA Secures 50% OpenAI Discount for Government Agencies

The General Services Administration reached an agreement with OpenAI to provide federal employees and state, local, and tribal governments a 50% discount on the company's most advanced artificial intelligence models. Secured under the Trump administration's OneGov procurement strategy, the deal requires no minimum spending commitment and utilizes a consumption-based access model to allow agencies to test technologies before committing to lengthy acquisitions.

To ensure data protection and governance, the agreement mandates that model access be restricted to environments authorized by the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program. GSA officials stated the initiative aims to integrate AI-enabled capabilities into agency operations to reduce administrative burdens and improve federal performance.

OpenAI noted that the partnership supports the goals of America’s AI Action Plan. GSA leadership indicated that the agency welcomes other AI technology companies to engage with the OneGov framework to increase competition and deliver value for taxpayers.
