UNDP Representative Urges Liberian Diaspora to Drive National Transformation
Aliou Mamadou Dia of the UNDP called for diaspora investment in Liberia's sustainable development during a conference in Alexandria, Virginia.
UNDP Liberia Resident Representative Aliou Mamadou Dia called for the mobilization of the global Liberian diaspora to support national investment and development during the Second Liberia Diaspora Annual Conference 2026. Speaking in Alexandria, Virginia, Dia emphasized that the gathering served as a platform for partnership between government officials, private sector leaders, and Liberians living abroad to move "from dialogue to delivery."
Dia commended the leadership of the Government of Liberia during the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, noting that the country successfully advanced priorities related to economic transformation, peace, governance, and sustainable development. He stated that these efforts align with the UNDP's Country Programme Document for 2026–2030, which focuses on climate resilience and inclusive governance.
The conference aimed to identify practical mechanisms for the diaspora to contribute to the country's national transformation. Dia noted that engaging Liberians abroad strengthens the connection between national priorities and global expertise to ensure lasting impact.
