Samsung Accelerates TriFold 2 Launch to Rival Apple iPhone Duo

Samsung Electronics is reportedly accelerating the development of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 and a separate slideable device to compete with Apple's entry into the foldable market. The move follows Apple's reveal of the iPhone Duo, which is scheduled for launch on October 23.

Originally slated for a 2027 release, the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is expected to be thinner, lighter, and more durable than its predecessor. Samsung aims to maintain a price point of approximately $2,900, similar to the original model's $2,899 launch price, despite increasing manufacturing and component costs.

The original Galaxy Z TriFold launched in South Korea and later in the United States in January 2026. However, the device was discontinued in March after a limited three-month release because high production costs forced the company to sell the units at a loss. While internal pressure to counter Apple is driving the accelerated timeline, some reports indicate the devices may still adhere to the original 2027 schedule.
