Russia Imports 60,000 Tons of Indian Gasoline via Traders

Russia imported at least 60,000 metric tons of gasoline from India's Nayara Energy via third-party traders to mitigate fuel shortages caused by Ukrainian infrastructure attacks.

Russia has imported at least 60,000 metric tons of gasoline produced by Nayara Energy to address fuel shortages resulting from Ukrainian attacks on its energy infrastructure. The shipments originated from Nayara's Vadinar refinery, including two tankers carrying between 30,000 and 40,000 tons each. Tracking data for the vessel Agni showed the ship departed Vadinar on June 20 for Fujairah but subsequently headed north through the Suez Canal toward Russia.

Indian Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that Indian companies are not selling fuel directly to Russia, though he acknowledged it is possible that Russia is purchasing Indian-origin fuel through traders. Nayara Energy, in which Russian oil major Rosneftegaz holds a 49 percent stake, has increasingly relied on international trading firms for imports and exports since European Union sanctions imposed in July 2025 complicated direct payment processes. Following those sanctions and the withdrawal of other suppliers, the Vadinar refinery currently processes only Russian oil.
