Taylor Wimpey to Build 265 Military Homes in Carterton

Construction will begin next month on a residential development of 265 houses, bungalows, and apartments in Carterton, Oxfordshire. Led by Taylor Wimpey, the project will be built on land previously used for RAF Brize Norton married quarters. To facilitate the work, Northwood Crescent will close starting August 3, 2026, and will remain shut until no later than December 31, 2029.

The development includes 457 parking spaces, electric vehicle charging points, a community green space, and the replacement of an underpass on Upavon Way with a signalized crossing. The project is part of a broader £9 billion Defence Housing Strategy intended to modernize 40,000 properties.

Funding for the project follows a January 2025 commitment from the Government of the United Kingdom to use savings generated by the Ministry of Defence's buy-back of over 36,000 military houses from the private sector. The West Oxfordshire District Council noted that while the Local Plan originally targeted the completion of 200 homes on the site by 2016, those goals were delayed for years due to funding issues.
