Adani Group to Invest ₹1 Lakh Crore in West Bengal

Gautam Adani announced a ₹1 trillion investment in West Bengal by 2035, targeting infrastructure, power distribution, and a new 2,000-bed non-profit hospital.

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani announced on September 24, 2026, that his conglomerate will invest over ₹1 lakh crore (₹1 trillion) in West Bengal by 2035. Speaking at the Indian Chamber of Commerce and a foundation stone-laying ceremony in Kolkata, Adani detailed a decade-long strategy to develop ports, logistics, roads, bridges, ropeways, green cement, and hyperscale data centers. He characterized the state as a strategic national node due to its proximity to mineral-rich regions and access to Southeast Asian and Indo-Pacific markets.

A significant portion of the plan involves entering the power distribution sector in Kolkata and Howrah, which challenges the long-standing monopoly of the R.P. Sanjiv Goenka Group's CESC Ltd. Adani also unveiled the Adani Arogya Mandir in New Town, a ₹4,000-crore not-for-profit healthcare city. The facility will include a medical college and a 2,000-bed hospital, with 1,000 beds reserved for economically weaker sections, and is expected to create 10,000 jobs.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari attended the ceremony and urged the group to support the state's development. To balance industrial growth with cultural preservation, the Adani Group signed agreements with the Government of West Bengal to restore the historic Writers' Building and Kumartuli Ghat, and to promote Kolkata's Durga Puja on a global scale.
