Singapore Issues Haze Notices to 10 Indonesian Companies
The National Environment Agency issued preventive measure notices to 10 Indonesian firms linked to wildfires causing transboundary haze in Singapore.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) issued preventive measure notices to three Indonesian companies on October 19, 2026, after identifying fires on their concession lands in Kalimantan as sources of haze affecting Singapore. These firms—PT Buana Megatama Jaya, PT Mananjung Hayak, and PT Baratama Putra Perkasa—join seven other companies served on October 16 for fires in Sumatra, bringing the total to 10 entities targeted under the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act (THPA).
Under the act, the companies must cease all burning, deploy firefighting personnel, and submit action plans to prevent future fires. Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu stated the government will investigate all responsible companies and may pursue fines or charges.
Senior Minister K Shanmugam warned that Singapore will use every legal, regulatory, and economic lever to pressure non-compliant firms, noting that impacts could extend to financing and investor standing regardless of a company's physical presence in Singapore. He specifically rejected evidence-free claims of environmental responsibility as "greenwashing." The Singapore Exchange has already questioned seven listed agri-related companies, including Wilmar and Indofood Agri, regarding their links to the fires.
