Apple Explores Radical Redesign of Smartwatch Lineup
Apple is evaluating new form factors for its wearables, including round displays and screen-free devices, to integrate advanced AI and health features.
Apple Inc. is exploring a major redesign of its smartwatch lineup to reinvigorate a product category that has seen only modest updates in recent years. The company's industrial design team is evaluating several new form factors, including round displays, various screen sizes, and screen-free wearable devices similar to smart rings and Whoop bands.
These efforts aim to make wearables more AI-driven, featuring an enhanced Siri assistant and a reimagined Health app. To expand its market reach, the company is considering the development of premium models positioned above the Ultra and Hermès editions, as well as more affordable options priced below the SE model.
While the upcoming Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, expected in September, will likely feature only minor performance and health-tracking upgrades, the broader redesign is viewed as a potential transformation comparable to a shift toward foldable iPhones. Some reports also suggest the possible return of a ceramic case option for future models.
