Nevada and Tennessee Report June 2026 Unemployment Decreases

Nevada and Tennessee both reported slight decreases in their unemployment rates for June 2026, with both states showing year-over-year nonfarm job growth.

Nevada and Tennessee reported declines in their seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for June 2026, reflecting modest job growth across both states. In Nevada, the rate fell to 5.1 percent, a 0.1 percentage point decrease from May. Total nonfarm jobs in the state reached 1,614,100, representing an increase of 3,800 jobs since May and 2.3 percent growth over the previous year. Regional performance diverged, as Las Vegas added 3,000 jobs while Reno and Carson City saw losses of 600 and 100 jobs, respectively.

David Schmidt, chief economist for the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, stated that the state's labor market remained on a "solid footing" despite a monthly decrease of 6,845 people in the labor force. He noted that both the unemployment rate and labor force participation rate decreased, mirroring national trends.

Tennessee's unemployment rate also dropped by 0.1 percentage points from May, falling to 3.5 percent in June. This figure represents the state's lowest point of the year and remains below the national unemployment rate of 4.2 percent. Tennessee added 2,500 nonfarm jobs in June, led by gains in professional services, health services, and durable goods manufacturing. Over the full year, the state added 25,300 nonfarm jobs, with the strongest growth appearing in health care, social assistance, and leisure and hospitality.
