Nirmala Sitharaman Inaugurates Aaykar Sindhu Building in Mumbai

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman opened the Aaykar Sindhu building in Mumbai and urged Income Tax officials to improve governance and integrity.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the Aaykar Sindhu, a 13-floor building in the Nariman Point business district of Mumbai, on Sunday. During the ceremony, she directed Income Tax department officials to increase efficiency and adhere to the highest standards of honesty in tax administration, instructing them not to make citizens "run from pillar to post" to receive entitled services.

Sitharaman criticized the "laidback" nature of government governance, noting that the land for the new facility had been held since 1973 but suffered from illegal encroachments over several decades. She urged officials to expedite the procurement of office spaces and rental accommodations to avoid paying phenomenal rates in the fast-growing city.

To address the shortage of official housing for officers in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, the Finance Minister pledged to facilitate government-to-government land transfers. Specifically, she suggested the acquisition of land from the state-run BSNL to resolve these accommodation deficits.
