Microsoft Forecasts 170 Billion Dollar AI Infrastructure Spend
Microsoft plans to spend 170 billion dollars on AI infrastructure this year, primarily targeting CPUs and GPUs to meet high demand.
Microsoft reported its fiscal 2027 first-quarter earnings, forecasting total capital expenditures of 170 billion dollars for the calendar year. The company expects spending to accelerate during the second half of the year to keep pace with the high demand for AI infrastructure.
Approximately 75 percent of these expenditures are allocated to short-lived assets, specifically central processing units and graphics processing units. This investment strategy aims to address investor concerns regarding potential overspending by demonstrating that the build-out is driven by existing demand.
The spending plan provides a positive outlook for Nvidia, a primary supplier that dominates the AI chip market and has recently expanded into the CPU market.
