Brent Chapman Leaves BC Conservatives to Join OneBC

MLA for Surrey South Brent Chapman left the Conservative Party of B.C. on September 22, 2026, to join the OneBC political organization. Chapman cited a shift in party values and principles since 2024, noting that disagreements within the caucus had become difficult to ignore. He described the move as a personal decision, mentioning that his wife, former party leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay, had faced attacks from former colleagues prior to her resignation on September 20.

Chapman's departure follows a period of significant instability for the Conservative Party of B.C., during which 14 MLAs left the caucus. On the same day Chapman switched parties, NDP Premier David Eby called a snap election. Chapman criticized the timing of the election call as "outrageous" because of its proximity to a municipal election.

OneBC, the organization Chapman joined, advocates for a platform that includes stricter immigration controls, the removal of SOGI from classrooms, and a 50% income tax cut for earnings under $100,000.
