Delhi Police Implement Major Traffic Diversions for BRICS Summit

The Delhi Police implemented wide-ranging traffic diversions and parking restrictions across New Delhi on September 12 and 13, 2026, to manage two simultaneous high-profile events. On Saturday, regulations were enforced from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm around Bharat Mandapam and central Delhi corridors for the 18th BRICS Summit, causing congestion on alternative routes like the Barapullah flyover.

Traffic controls intensified on Sunday, September 13, for the final day of the three-day summit. The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory for restrictions between 8 am and 8 pm, involving diversions at 22 points and regulations on more than 35 roads, primarily in south and central Delhi. These measures targeted areas including Connaught Place, Lodhi Road, and the roads surrounding Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan. Commercial vehicles were restricted from several zones, and roadside parking was prohibited within 200 meters of controlled roads.

Simultaneously, the police scheduled further curbs on Sunday from 2:00 pm to 11:45 pm surrounding the Arun Jaitley Stadium for a T20 cricket match between India and Afghanistan. These restrictions affected Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, DDU Marg, and JLN Marg. Authorities prohibited general spectator parking near the stadium and urged commuters to use Metro services for airport and stadium travel to mitigate city-wide congestion. Emergency and medical vehicles were granted priority passage throughout the weekend.
