King Mohammed VI Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia

King Mohammed VI of Morocco condemned a series of Houthi militia attacks against Saudi Arabia, describing the actions as criminal and heinous. In letters addressed to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Moroccan monarch stated that any attack on Saudi Arabia is an attack on Morocco, explicitly linking the security of Morocco to that of the Gulf Cooperation Council states.

The condemnation follows a surge in Houthi activity throughout September 2026. This included a September 11 attack on an East-West pipeline pumping station in Medina, a September 15 drone interception near Mecca, and strikes toward Riyadh on September 19 and September 26. Additionally, ballistic missiles were intercepted on September 26 while heading toward Khamis Mushait.

King Mohammed VI specifically highlighted the targeting of civilian infrastructure and the holy cities of Mecca and Medina as violations of international humanitarian law and Islamic principles. He called for international sanctions and accountability under UN Security Council Resolutions 2216 and 2722, arguing that the militias and their supporters threaten global maritime security and regional stability.
