UK Tribunal Approves £55.87 Million Car Delivery Compensation Plan

The Competition Appeal Tribunal has approved a plan to distribute £55.87 million in compensation to UK consumers and businesses that paid inflated delivery charges for new cars and vans. The settlement stems from a 2018 European Commission decision that fined five shipping companies—MOL, K Line, NYK, WWL/EUKOR, and CSAV—395 million euros for fixing vehicle transport prices.

Eligible claimants include private consumers, public sector organizations, and businesses such as rental and fleet management companies that bought or leased vehicles from 37 brands, including BMW, Ford, and Volkswagen, between October 18, 2006, and September 6, 2015. Individual payouts begin at £25 for the first vehicle, with smaller additional amounts for subsequent vehicles. Claimants can receive payments via direct banking, Nectar points, or charitable donations.

Mark McLaren, a former Which? consumer expert, urged affected parties to register for their share of the funds. He stated that with the plan fully approved, the distribution of settlement monies can occur later this year, adding that those already signed up will be contacted as soon as the distribution is open.
