INEC Distributes Election Materials for Osun Governorship Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) began distributing sensitive election materials to 30 local government areas in Osun State on Thursday night. Supervised by Resident Electoral Commissioner Oluwatoyin Babalola, the distribution originated from the Central Bank of Nigeria premises in Osogbo ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday.

The process faced initial delays after the Federal High Court ordered INEC to include the Social Democratic Party on the ballot. This judicial mandate required the commission to print additional result sheets and ballot papers before deployment. To mitigate these delays, INEC implemented a strategy prioritizing the delivery of materials to distant and difficult-to-access local governments.

National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna reported that 1,906,390 registered voters, representing 81.50 percent of the state's total, have collected their Permanent Voter Cards. While observers from the Kimpat Development Initiative described the arrival of materials as encouraging, they noted that gathering storm clouds and potential rainfall could threaten the remaining distribution efforts.
