China Services Trade Grows 8.3 Percent Through July 2026

The Ministry of Commerce reported that China's trade in services grew 8.3 percent year on year during the first seven months of 2026, totaling nearly 4.45 trillion yuan, or approximately 655.8 billion U.S. dollars.

Services exports rose 17.1 percent to over 1.77 trillion yuan. This growth was driven largely by travel and transport services, which surged 27.7 percent and 27.1 percent respectively. Services imports increased by 3.2 percent to 2.67 trillion yuan, which narrowed the overall trade deficit to 900.25 billion yuan.

Knowledge-intensive services, including information technology and finance, remained a core pillar of the economy, accounting for 44.1 percent of total services trade. These figures align with the 15th Five-Year Plan and an April guideline from the State Council of the People's Republic of China, both of which aim to expand the service sector to over 100 trillion yuan by 2030.
