India Rejects Pakistan Accusations at ASEAN Regional Forum
India dismissed Pakistani allegations of deliberate river manipulation and reiterated that the Indus Waters Treaty remains suspended due to cross-border terrorism.
The Ministry of External Affairs of India rejected claims made by Pakistan during the ASEAN Regional Forum in Manila. Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar used the forum to raise the issue of Jammu and Kashmir and criticize India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
India responded by asserting that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India. Officials stated the Indus Waters Treaty will remain in abeyance until Pakistan irrevocably and credibly ends its support for cross-border terrorism.
India further dismissed allegations that it manipulated river flows to cause flooding in Pakistan. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal attributed the rise in the Chenab river's water levels to heavy monsoon rainfall occurring between July 20 and 23. India noted that Pakistan's own Flood Forecasting Division in Lahore attributed the flooding to rainfall, rendering the accusations baseless and technically untenable.
