Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi Calls for New Pakistani Provinces

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi declared that Pakistan's governance system has collapsed and is incapable of solving national problems. Speaking at the first Pakistan Economic Summit in Islamabad, Naqvi argued that the existing structural framework has failed for 70 years, citing the irony of an agricultural nation importing wheat. He called for a systemic reset through the creation of new provinces or administrative units to ensure justice for citizens and merit-based employment for youth.

Naqvi warned that without structural reforms, the country will continue facing the same challenges for another decade. He stated that the work of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir would not yield lasting results unless political parties set aside differences to fix the system. His calls for decentralization align with demands from Mustafa Kamal and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, who argue that power should be devolved further to local communities.

The proposal met immediate resistance from the Pakistan Peoples Party. Vice President Sherry Rehman opposed reopening the debate, stating that no concrete proposal has been presented. However, State Minister for Interior Tallal Chaudhry defended the move, noting that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has consistently supported the creation of new provinces to improve governance.

These political debates occur amid rising domestic unrest. In Karachi, the transgender community protested inflation and fuel prices, while the All Government Employees Grand Alliance in Punjab disputed the delivery of budget-promised retirement benefits and disparity allowances.
