Florida Minimum Wage Reaches $15 Per Hour

The Government of Florida increased the state minimum wage to $15 per hour on September 30, 2026. This $1 increase marks the final step in a series of scheduled raises mandated by Amendment 2, a constitutional change approved by Florida voters in November 2020.

The $15 rate will remain constant through December 31, 2027. Starting in 2028, the state will return to its previous practice of making annual adjustments based on the rate of inflation, a system that had been in place since 2004.

John Morgan and the political committee Florida For A Fair Wage led the initiative to raise the wage, describing the campaign as a fight to abolish "slave wages." In contrast, economists and critics have cautioned that these price floors may result in higher operating costs for small businesses, reduced working hours for low-income employees, and higher unemployment rates.
