Idaho Abortion Rights Initiative Raises $7.5 Million

Supporters and opponents of Idaho's Proposition 1 have raised nearly $7.5 million to influence the vote on repealing state abortion bans.

Campaigns surrounding Proposition 1, the Reproductive Freedom and Privacy Act, have raised nearly $7.5 million and spent $1.3 million combined to influence the ballot initiative to repeal abortion bans in Idaho.

The Idahoans United for Women and Families PAC, chaired by Becky Uranga, leads in fundraising with approximately $4.9 million and has spent over $1.1 million. Its funding includes contributions from Michael Bloomberg, Gwendolyn Sontheim, and the Government That Works PAC.

Opposing the measure, the Too Extreme for Idaho PAC, chaired by Katherine Heffner, has raised about $2.5 million and spent nearly $169,000. While supporters hold a fundraising lead, the majority of independent expenditures have been made in opposition to the measure, primarily through the Idaho Republican Party's county central committees and the Citizens Alliance of Idaho.

Adding to the financial landscape, Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador issued a legal opinion in August allowing churches to spend money on ballot initiatives without disclosing their donors, provided they do not solicit specific donations for the measure from their congregants.
