Srijan Pal Singh Urges AI Democratization in India
Srijan Pal Singh advocates for integrating artificial intelligence into Indian governance and expanding AI research beyond elite institutions to accelerate national digital progress.
Srijan Pal Singh, a scientist and author, called for the democratization of artificial intelligence in India to accelerate growth in the technology sector. During an appearance on the program In Conversation, Singh argued that AI tools designed for human welfare must be integrated into governance systems to be effective.
While praising India's semiconductor investments and training capacity, Singh cautioned against an over-reliance on the Indian Institutes of Technology. He suggested a policy shift that includes a broader range of higher education institutions and the private sector to foster greater competition.
Singh noted that AI research has shifted from academic projects to commercially aggressive ventures. He stated that India must set digital aspirations higher than the success of the Unified Payments Interface to maintain its competitive edge.
