Record Midterm Voter Turnout Reported Across US Counties

Voters in California, Texas, and Alaska recorded historic midterm turnout levels during the November 3 election, with some areas surpassing previous presidential election totals.

The November 3 midterm elections saw historic voter participation across several U.S. regions, with record-breaking numbers reported in California, Texas, and Alaska.

In Humboldt County, California, Registrar of Voters Juan Pablo Cervantes reported record-breaking turnout at ballot dropboxes, some of which were filled to capacity. By Tuesday morning, the elections office had processed approximately 21,000 ballots, with mail-in votes expected to constitute the majority of the total.

Bell County, Texas, recorded its highest midterm turnout in history, with 106,624 ballots cast. This represents over 42% of registered voters and the third-largest overall turnout in the county's history. High demand led to wait times exceeding 45 minutes at 17 polling sites, forcing officials to use an online tracker to redirect voters.

Bethel, Alaska, experienced turnout that surpassed the 2024 presidential election totals. Preliminary tallies included over 1,050 in-person votes and 264 absentee ballots. Local voters cited fishing regulations and fuel costs as primary motivations for participating, while the Native American Rights Fund provided transportation to the Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center.
