Qualcomm Wins Decade-Long Deal to Supply BMW AI Chips

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. signed a long-term agreement on July 29 to serve as the lead compute silicon provider for BMW Group's next-generation digital cockpits and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS/AD). The partnership, spanning the next decade, centers on the Snapdragon Digital Chassis portfolio and the Snapdragon Elite automotive platform, providing the hardware foundation for BMW's AI-led vehicle architectures.

This collaboration expands an existing technical relationship, which recently included the November 2025 launch of the Snapdragon Ride Pilot system in the BMW iX3 as part of the Neue Klasse program. The new deal aims to integrate agentic and physical AI into mobility, allowing for advanced features such as hands-free highway driving and automatic lane changes.

The agreement is part of a broader strategy by Qualcomm to diversify revenue beyond mobile handsets and move into high-margin automotive markets. This shift coincides with Qualcomm's $3.9 billion acquisition of the AI software startup Modular. The announcement comes as the company faces intensifying competition from rivals including Nvidia and Mobileye Global, and immediately precedes a fiscal Q2 earnings report where analysts predict a 32.75% year-over-year decline in earnings per share.
