Bombay High Court Allows Preity Zinta to Sue Google and Meta

The Bombay High Court granted Preity Zinta permission to file a civil injunction suit against Google LLC, Meta Platforms, and other digital entities for the unauthorized use of her identity. Justice Abhay Ahuja approved the petition under Clause XII of the Letters Patent, asserting the court's jurisdiction to hear the case despite some respondents being based outside Mumbai.

Zinta alleges that these platforms created and disseminated AI-generated deepfakes, manipulated images, memes, and chatbot personas without her authorization. Her legal team argues that this content infringes upon her personality, copyright, and moral rights under the Copyright Act of 1957, causing damage to her reputation and goodwill. While the infringing material is accessible globally, Zinta primarily resides and works in Mumbai.

The proposed suit seeks permanent injunctions to prevent the further circulation and misuse of the actress's likeness. This legal action follows a broader trend of Indian celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor, seeking judicial protection against AI-driven personality infringement.
