The Post Office Limited will close at least 21 branches across England, Wales, and Scotland by February 2027. The closures are largely driven by a restructuring program at TG Jones, a major host retailer that intends to shut up to 150 of its 450 stores, including 34 locations that currently house Post Office counters.
Impacted sites range from flagship city center branches in Swansea and Llandudno to the sole local service points in rural villages such as Inchture and Greatworth. The loss of these branches removes critical access to mail, identity, and financial services for local residents, particularly the elderly.
While the Post Office Limited is reviewing expressions of interest to find replacement operators, the company notes that this process typically takes six months. Local representatives have criticized the timeline and the lack of immediate alternatives. Member of Parliament Claire Hughes has specifically pressured the organization to secure alternative locations for the Bangor and Llandudno sites, stating that existing alternative provisions are already at capacity.
