Google Raises Prices for TV Streamer and Nest Hardware

Google increased prices for its Google TV Streamer and Nest security hardware effective August 31. The Google TV Streamer saw a 50% price hike, rising from $99 to $149, or $150 depending on the retailer. The company attributed the increase to rising component costs, specifically citing the memory costs associated with the device's 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Hardware specifications for the streamer remain unchanged.

Price increases also affected the Nest security lineup, with all five available cameras and doorbells rising by $20 to $50. The battery-powered Nest Cam, both Nest Doorbells, and the second-generation wired Nest Cam Outdoor now cost $200, while the third-generation wired Nest Cam Indoor increased to $130. Prices for the Nest Hub, thermostats, and Google Home Speaker remain unchanged.

These adjustments follow a broader trend of rising costs across the industry. Google previously implemented a $100 price jump for the Pixel 11 phone lineup. Competitors have made similar moves, with Amazon raising the price of the Fire TV Stick 4K Max to $84.99 and Apple increasing the Apple TV 4K to a range between $199 and $249. While new pricing is active at the Google Store and Best Buy, some retailers like Amazon may still list original prices for existing stock.
