U.S. Task Force Seizes 1,500 Pounds of Cocaine
A U.S.-led international task force seized nearly 1,500 pounds of cocaine in the Caribbean Sea during two separate operations.
A U.S. task force and international partners seized nearly 1,500 pounds of cocaine during two separate operations in the Caribbean Sea over one week. U.S. Customs and Border Protection first intercepted a go-fast boat and seized 562 pounds of narcotics. In a second operation, a French frigate acting on intelligence from the Colombian Navy intercepted a vessel carrying approximately 917 pounds of cocaine.
These seizures are part of a broader campaign led by U.S. Southern Command to dismantle narco-terrorist networks. The Trump administration has integrated these efforts with military strikes against suspected drug traffickers, which officials justify as lawful actions against designated terrorist organizations.
Pentagon press secretary Kingsley Wilson defended the legality of these operations, stating they are in compliance with the Law of Armed Conflict. Conversely, the American Civil Liberties Union has condemned the military strikes as illegal premeditated killings of civilians, claiming at least 239 people have been killed since September 2025.
