Labour Party Chieftain Sues to Release Peter Obi's Records

Abayomi Arabambi, a chieftain of the Labour Party, filed three separate lawsuits at the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel the release of official academic and service records belonging to Peter Obi. Obi is the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress for the 2027 election.

Filed under the Freedom of Information Act of 2011, the suits target the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Arabambi seeks access to a 1978 WAEC certificate, a 1984 UNN degree in Philosophy, and a 1986 NYSC certificate to ensure transparency for individuals seeking public office.

Arabambi alleges that WAEC rejected his request on August 11, 2026, while UNN and NYSC failed to respond to his inquiries. The plaintiff stated he is not asking the court to determine if the certificates are forged, but rather to disclose the official records from which their status can be ascertained. No hearing dates have been set for the cases.
