US Counties Launch Early Voting for November 3 Election
Election officials across multiple states are managing early voting and registration deadlines as voters prepare for the general election on November 3.
Election boards across several states are implementing early voting procedures and registration deadlines for the general election on November 3, 2026. In New York, the Franklin and Essex County Boards of Elections have set October 24 as the deadline for voter registration and absentee ballot applications, while address changes must be processed by October 19.
Early in-person voting is already active in several jurisdictions. In Wilson County, Tennessee, Tammy Smith reported that 8,724 voters, or 7.6% of registered voters, cast ballots during the first four days of voting. Smith noted that while current turnout exceeds 2022 levels, it remains below 2018 figures.
Other regions are currently operating early voting sites or preparing to launch them. Gadsden County, Florida, is offering four polling locations through November 1, and Hardin County, Ohio, is conducting in-person absentee voting at its Board of Elections office. In Delaware, the Department of Elections will begin a 10-day early voting period on October 22 across 19 sites in Kent, New Castle, and Sussex counties.
Officials have highlighted specific regulatory changes and requirements. In New York, updated laws now prohibit voters who request absentee ballots from using voting machines on Election Day or during early voting, though affidavit voting remains an option. Both Delaware and Tennessee jurisdictions require specific forms of identification for voters to cast their ballots.
