Mike Rogers Asks AIPAC to Halt Campaign Spending

Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers requested that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) stop spending money on his behalf in the general election. Despite his history of supporting U.S. aid to Israel, Rogers views the lobbying group's visible involvement as a potential political liability in the Michigan race.

Rogers faces Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed, an outspoken critic of Israel who previously defeated an AIPAC-backed candidate in the Democratic primary by framing them as beholden to the organization. Following a meeting in Los Angeles between Rogers and AIPAC chair Michael Tuchin, the organization paused a planned commercial for the November race.

While Rogers' allies have suggested using indirect influence through super PACs or strategists, AIPAC officials reportedly prefer a visible role to maintain the group's political influence. The request comes as polling indicates 55% of Michigan voters favor ending U.S. aid to Israel.
