Meta Restores No Kings Account After Election Day Suspension
Meta Platforms restored the Instagram account of the No Kings voting movement after an automated security error caused a temporary suspension during nationwide demonstrations.
Thousands of Americans participated in nationwide No Kings: Vote Early demonstrations on October 17, 2026, to promote voter turnout and election protection. The nonpartisan initiative, led by a coalition including Indivisible, the American Civil Liberties Union, and Black Voters Matter, shifted its focus from protesting the Donald Trump administration toward civic participation.
During the events, Meta Platforms temporarily suspended the movement's primary Instagram account. Organizers accused the company of political interference, while some critics cited Mark Zuckerberg's efforts to improve relations with the president. However, no official evidence emerged that the Trump administration directed the action.
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone attributed the suspension to automated security systems that detected a spike in activity involving a Claude tool. Meta apologized for the error and restored the account after an automated re-review an hour later. Despite the restoration, organizers reported continued delays in regaining full access to the account.
