Rakesh Mohan Challenges Brandon Woolf for Idaho State Controller
Democratic candidate Rakesh Mohan is challenging Republican incumbent Brandon Woolf for Idaho state controller, focusing on failures during the 2023 rollout of the Luma financial system.
Rakesh Mohan, a Democratic candidate and former director of the Idaho Office of Performance Evaluations, is challenging Republican incumbent Brandon Woolf in the 2026 general election for Idaho state controller. Woolf has served as the state's chief fiscal officer since 2012 and is seeking a fourth term.
The campaign centers on the 2023 implementation of Luma, a cloud-based enterprise resource planning system used to centralize payroll and financial management for more than 80 state agencies. Mohan argues that reporting errors and payment delays resulting from the rollout were caused by leadership failures within the controller's office.
Woolf defends the system as a budget-compliant replacement for obsolete software from the 1980s. While he acknowledges there were hiccups during the transition, he maintains that the system is working as intended. Mohan has countered by stating he would have resigned in disgrace had he been the controller during the Luma rollout.
