Mike Johnson Wins Re-election After North Carolina Campaign Tour

House Speaker Mike Johnson secured a sixth term in Louisiana after campaigning for Republican congressional candidates in North Carolina.

House Speaker Mike Johnson won re-election to Louisiana's 4th Congressional District, securing his sixth term in office. The Republican incumbent defeated fellow Republicans Mike Nichols and Gordon Heslop, along with Democrats Matt Gromlich and Conrad Cable. Johnson has represented northwest Louisiana since 2017.

Immediately preceding the election, Johnson conducted a campaign tour in North Carolina on November 2 to support Republican challengers in redrawn districts. In Jacksonville, he rallied for incumbent Representative Greg Murphy in the 3rd Congressional District, emphasizing Murphy's role in the House GOP Doctors Caucus and the necessity of national healthcare reform.

In Emerald Isle, Johnson campaigned for Laurie Buckhout, who challenged Democratic incumbent Don Davis for the 1st Congressional District seat. Buckhout characterized Davis's tenure as a "reign of do-nothing," while Davis focused on inflation and get-out-the-vote efforts.

Recent reports indicate Johnson closed the House early in September to facilitate campaigning and frequently canceled voting days to prevent disruptions from members of his own party regarding legislative efforts that could have rebuked President Donald Trump.
