Google Launches Public AI Content Verification Website
Google released a public tool using SynthID technology to help users verify if images, videos, or audio clips were generated by artificial intelligence.
Google launched a public website on Tuesday that enables users to verify whether images, videos, or audio clips were generated by artificial intelligence. The tool utilizes SynthID, a watermarking technology the company introduced in 2023, following a period of limited testing with researchers and journalists.
The verification system is integrated into Google Chrome and the Gemini app, with the company reporting approximately 1 million verification requests daily. Google's internal models, including Veo, Lyria, and Nano Banana, as well as tools like Vids and Gemini, automatically apply SynthID watermarks to generated media.
While OpenAI and Nvidia support the SynthID standard, other industry leaders such as Microsoft and Meta maintain their own separate watermarking standards for content verification.
