OpenAI Ad Business Hits $1 Billion Revenue Run Rate
OpenAI announced its advertising business reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate within 200 days of launch and is expanding into new global markets.
OpenAI announced Monday that its advertising business achieved a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate approximately 200 days after its launch. The company is now expanding self-service ad access across Europe, India, the Middle East, and North Africa, following initial testing in the United States that began in February.
ChatGPT Ads are currently available in more than 40 countries and are served to both free-tier and Go subscribers. The company stated that ads are clearly labeled and do not influence chatbot responses or grant advertisers access to private user conversations.
This revenue diversification occurs as the company prepares for an expected initial public offering and seeks to justify its $852 billion valuation to investors. The ad push follows a period of competitive friction, including a Super Bowl campaign by rival Anthropic that ridiculed the move toward advertising.
